TACOM oversees the operation of five manufacturing Arsenals and maintenance depots across the United States.
Our five industrial facilities are part of the Army’s Organic Industrial Base – the 23 depots, arsenals and ammunition plants managed by our higher headquarters, Army Materiel Command, that manufacture and reset Army equipment, generating readiness and operational capability throughout Army formations.
These industrial capabilities are an integral part of the Army. Put another way, these industrial capabilities are organic to the Army, which is precisely why we call them the Organic Industrial Base.
The OIB exists to maintain unit readiness across the force and gives the Army the ability to surge in support of contingencies.
